I Love Sycamore. I Love DeKalb County.
My name is Maria. I was born in DeKalb. I went to Kindergarten through 6th at Central School, 6th and 7th at the Junior High, and graduated from Sycamore High School in 1988. I grew up in Clare. I declared I would never return to this area when I left to attend college at the University of Missouri, yet I returned to get my B.A. and M.A. from Northern Illinois University. I got married and lived in Sycamore for five years before moving to the St. Louis area in 1999, vowing to never return. I spent over a decade in St. Louis.
I now live in Clare. It really is true love. I can't stay away.
As much as anyone, I understand that sometimes this is a hard place to love - especially in the winter when it drops to 50 below tolerable and features winds that could slice through stone if properly harnessed. I decided to start this site to explain by way of featuring some of the reasons I love DeKalb County. It is also my intention to post things to do as I find out about them.
I frequently wake up in the morning astounded that I am opening my eyes in Clare, Illinois. I wouldn't have it any other way. Let me explain...
